August 4, 2010: Power of Attorney Rights & Responsabilities
Credit offered:IRS, CSEA/NAEA, CTEC # 1001-CE-6465: 1 Federal Hour
This session concerns the representation of taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service under the authority of a power of attorney. The session will focus primarily on issues and procedures a representative will face when dealing with an IRS examiner, whether the examiner is a revenue agent or tax compliance officer. Over the last five years the Internal Revenue Service has hired a substantial number of new revenue agents, revenue officers, and tax compliance officers. These new hires have been given limited instruction on how to deal effectively with taxpayer representatives. Some of the things you will learn are:
· Form 2848 errors that cause rejection
· Privileges afforded a qualified representative
· Rules of Practice
· Taxpayer Rights of Representation
· Interviewing techniques
· Controlling the Examination
The speaker of this digiTAX session, Joe Calderaro, EA, recently became an Enrolled Agent receiving his EA card in January 2010. He is a retired IRS employee with 45 years with the Agency. Joe spent the last 35 years as the Area Technical Advisor for Northern California providing technical and procedural support to examination and collection personnel.
Joe joined up with CSEA in July. His primary responsibility will be providing similar technical and procedural support to CSEA Members.
