IRS Tax Deadlines Extended for California Wildfire Victims

The White House has approved a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration for the Dixie and River wildfires, making federal funding available to individuals in Lassen, Nevada, Placer and Plumas counties. Other fires, including the Caldor Fire, may be included in the future.

Individuals and households affected by wildfires in the above counties now have until November 15, 2021 to file individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. This includes individuals with extensions to file their 2020 returns by October 15.

The extension also applies to the quarterly estimated tax payment normally due on September 15, and to the quarterly payroll and excise tax returns normally due on August 2.

In addition, penalties on deposits due on or after July 14 and before July 29 will be abated, as long as the tax deposits were made by July 29. Learn more here.
