Tax Transcript Redaction Issues Corrected

Income Verification Express Service (IVES) is a user fee-based program used primarily by mortgage lenders and others within the financial community to confirm the income of a borrower during the processing of a loan application. Various issues were identified in the tax transcript masking process implemented for IVES participants on January 1, 2019. The Transcript Delivery System was updated on March 22, 2019, to correct the issues with the changes listed below:

  • The first four characters of all names listed on a form or schedule for any individual will be visible (previous programming only showed the first four characters of the last name listed).
  • The first four characters of a business or entity name on a form or schedule will be visible (this corrects an issue with some forms or schedules showing the last four characters).

In addition, remember that transcripts will show one less character of a name if the name is four characters or less.
